Brief review of the Ikaria Short Film Festival
The Ikaria Short Film Festival was “born” in 2022, as an idea to highlight the rich cultural wealth of Ikaria but also a cultural influx of artistic ideas, themes and entertainment created in Greece by independent small productions. A content that is not found in the mainstream production media and cannot be easily contacted by an island resident. The aim was to be a platform for the artistic expression of young directors, framed by additional artistic actions from other fields of contemporary art and culture. The central idea of the Festival is the need for extroversion of its inhabitants and the contact with content beyond the borders of the island.
The Festival took place on August 26 and 27 in Ikaria and lasted 2 days. On the first day there were screenings of short films and on the second and last day a tribute to the late Ikarian director Spyros Tesco and his work, with an honorary screening of the film My Own Nikaria. The screenings took place at the summer cinema of Agios Kirikos and the attendance was large with the residents of the island as well as visitors who attended to have the opportunity to come into first contact with the production and creation of short films.
We were honored with their presence by important producers, Greek and Ikarian directors, actors and people from the area together with enthusiastic spectators who were at the municipal cinema of Agios Kirikos.
