The Ikarian Dance, Music and Festivals of Ikaria


In the present study, which concerns the Ikarian instrumental purpose, aspects of the conclusions obtained from the analysis of musical recordings of various performers of the older generations are presented. A wide range of mainly old recordings – sources, which includes previously unused archival material – was utilized. Particularly important was the access to sound documents of the archive of the Center for Research and Promotion of National Music, the study of which significantly enriched the data. The analysis focuses on various parameters such as the macrostructure and the microstructure, the melodic movement, the interlacing, the special technical characteristics, etc. Through the comparative study of the various versions of the ikariotic, similarities and differences are identified and its special characteristics are systematized .
